Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Orchid Health

October is here, and pink ribbons are popping up all across our local towns. It is a wonderful sign of support, and at Orchid Health, we love seeing our community come together for such an important cause. We want to build on that momentum by bringing true awareness right into our clinics: through clear conversations, proactive action, and quality preventative care close to home.

But when life gets busy, women in our tight-knit communities often put their family, work, and neighbors ahead of their own health visits. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are here to remind you that taking time for your own health isn't selfish. It is the best way to stay strong for the people who rely on you.

Why Early Detection Matters for Our Local Families

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women across the country, making it a reality that touches almost every family in our region. The hopeful news is that, when caught early, breast cancer is highly treatable. Catching changes early gives you options and keeps you in control of your health decisions.

Taking charge of your breast health does not have to be complex. It starts with three straightforward steps:

  • Get Familiar with What Is Normal for You: Pay attention to how your body feels. Noticing a new lump, skin changes, or unusual tenderness early makes it much easier to discuss with your local care team.
  • Schedule Your Annual Well-Woman Visit: Your routine checkup is a relaxed, dedicated time to talk about your personal health, family history, and any questions you have about cancer risk.
  • Plan Your Mammogram Screenings: Mammograms spot changes long before they can be felt. Current health guidelines recommend starting regular screenings at age 40, or sooner if you have a family history or higher risk factors.

Care Designed Around Your Life

Traveling long distances for appointments or trying to navigate specialty care systems can feel like a chore. Orchid Health was built specifically to remove those hurdles for Oregon's rural communities.

Our Wellbeing-First model means we offer full 60-minute initial visits so you never feel rushed. We take time to listen, answer your questions, and guide you through preventative care. While we do not perform mammograms directly in our clinic, our providers make the screening process seamless by connecting you with a trusted local imaging facility through a direct referral.

We walk you through every option and handle the details so you do not have to figure it out on your own. We also accept most major insurance plans, including OHP and Medicare, and offer sliding scale options so cost never stands between you and your care.

Make This October the Month You Prioritize You

Do not let another season pass with your wellness visit sitting on the back burner. Use this month as a reminder to take care of yourself.

  1. Schedule Your Well-Woman Exam: Call your local Orchid Health clinic or visit us online to set up an appointment.
  2. Pass the Message Along: Remind your neighbors, sisters, mothers, and friends to check in on their screening schedules, too.
  3. Talk to Us About Your Questions: Whether you are unsure about when to start screening, need a mammogram referral, or want to discuss family risk factors, your primary care team is here to help.

Your health matters to your family, your community, and to all of us at Orchid Health. Let us make this October about taking proactive care of ourselves and each other.
