Take Control of Your Heart Health: Why "Knowing Your Numbers" Matters
.png)
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because many people feel fine even when their numbers are too high. That’s why one of the most useful tools in your health routine is checking your blood pressure at home and sharing those readings with your Orchid Health team.
For the most accurate reading, sit quietly for five minutes and avoid caffeine, exercise, or smoking for 30 minutes before. Sit with your back supported, both feet flat on the floor, and your arm resting at heart level. Try to check at the same time each morning and evening, and avoid talking while the cuff runs.
Need a simple way to keep track? Stop by Orchid Health Sandy to pick up a Blood Pressure Log. It makes it easy to record your numbers and bring them to your next visit, so you and your provider can look for patterns over time.
If you have questions about checking your blood pressure at home or want a log, contact the clinic or visit orchidhealth.org..
Potassium Power

Small food changes can support healthy blood pressure over time. One helpful place to start is cutting back on packaged and restaurant foods, which are often high in sodium, and adding more potassium-rich foods like bananas, beans, leafy greens, and potatoes. Potassium helps your body balance salt and supports healthy blood flow.
