Why Does My Child Need a Sports Physical?
Sports Physicals, also known as pre-participation physical examinations (PPE), are essential to ensure your child’s safety on the field, court, or track. These exams confirm that your child is healthy and ready to participate in their chosen sport or camp.
What to Expect During a Sports Physical
During a Sports Physical, our providers will check:
- Height, weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate
- Family history, especially concerning heart health, asthma, and diabetes
- Any current allergies or injuries
- Menstrual periods (if applicable)
Your child’s heart, lungs, ears, nose, and throat will be examined, and we’ll also take a look at:
- Medical history
- Vision
- Muscle strength
- Joints, flexibility, and posture
Note: If your child needs labs, we can draw blood onsite or schedule a referral.
Don't Forget Your Athletic Clearance Paperwork
Remember to bring any necessary Athletic Clearance paperwork and complete the patient portions before your visit.
Each sport or program may have different requirements, so check with your child’s sport or program leaders to confirm the needed paperwork. Here’s the Oregon Sport Physical Form
