Understanding 2026 Federal Vaccine Guidance

Understanding Recent Federal Vaccine Guidance

In January 2026, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released revisions to the federal Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule. Families can review the federal schedule updates directly on the CDC website. These updates reduced the number of vaccines routinely recommended for all children at the federal level.

At Orchid Health, our recommended vaccine schedule has not changed. Orchid Health continues to follow guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Oregon Health Authority, and West Coast Health Alliance. This approach aligns with the long standing AAP immunization schedule used by pediatric providers throughout Oregon and the West Coast.

What Changed at the Federal Level

The updated CDC guidance reflects changes to federal recommendations for routine childhood immunizations.

Oregon families may notice differences between federal messaging and what their child’s provider recommends. This does not mean vaccines are unsafe or no longer needed. It means that providers and states will use their own discretion.

What This Means at Orchid Health

For families served by Orchid Health clinics, including those in Oakridge, McKenzie River, Sandy, Hoodland, Fern Ridge, Wade Creek, and nearby rural communities, this means:

If you are feeling unsure after reading news coverage or social media posts, your local Orchid Health provider can help explain what applies to your child.

Insurance and Vaccine Coverage

Insurance coverage for childhood immunizations has not changed. Most vaccines recommended under the  AAP-recommended schedule are covered by insurance, and students in the district may be eligible to receive vaccines at no cost.

Our teams can help families understand coverage, benefits, and available options before scheduling an appointment.
