Introducing Monique and Her Experience:
What initially drew you to become a Nurse Practitioner?
It felt like a natural progression in my career. I love patient education, I love to be able to help people learn about and work on chronic diseases to get to a better place of health. I also love primary care/prevention and rural health care so it all came together.
Can you tell us a bit about your experience as a midwife? How does it inform your approach to patient care now?
As a midwife, I spent hours educating families about the process of pregnancy, childbirth and childcare, as well as navigating the health system in general. I learned so much about health disparities and it sparked my interest in working with the entire family system not being limited to just moms and babies.
What made you interested in joining the Orchid family here in Oakridge?
I love the location in Oakridge, being at the gateway to the mountains and lakes and all the activities, being right on the river away from it all but still close enough to the city to do whatever you need to. Oakridge is still rural and has the challenges and needs that are dear to my heart with rural healthcare. Smaller rural communities truly do become a family and that is what I am looking for. The ability to offer that more personal connection.
Highlighting Services Offered:
What are some of the core areas of healthcare you focus on as a Nurse Practitioner?
Preventative care, education, maternal/child and Diabetes (and the complications that go with it)
Does your practice offer any specific services that might be of particular interest to the Oakridge community?
I bring a wealth of experience with pediatrics as young as 0, as well as women’s care.
What is your philosophy on patient care?
So much of patient care is just listening, if you really listen you can find the answers to the issues together.
Getting to Know Monique on a Personal Level:
When you're not busy providing excellent care, what are some ways you enjoy spending your time here in Oregon?
Traveling all over Oregon, hiking, and working on my house currently.
Do you have any favorite spots in Oakridge (restaurants, shops, parks)?
My favorite restaurant in Oakridge is The Campfire. Currently, my favorite shop in Oakridge is the Hardware store :)
What are you most looking forward to about being part of the Oakridge community? Myself and my family making friends and connections and integrating in the community.
