Whether you're in Brightwood, Welches, Rhododendron, Zig Zag, Government Camp, or the surrounding areas, our local team is here to offer compassionate care close to home.
Our clinic offers no-cost care for students and a range of services, including primary care, family medicine, telehealth, chronic care management, wellness visits, behavioral health services, and more. Malika Cox
Patient Support Specialist
Malika is a lifelong Oregonian who has called Brightwood home for over a decade. With experience in law, real estate, and property management, she now channels her passion for supporting the local community by helping patients feel welcomed and cared for.
When she’s not brightening patients' days, Malika enjoys Bigfoot hunting, snowy mountain adventures, and spending quality time with her two grandsons and her beloved goats.
Cate Schmidling, NCMA
Medical Assistant
Cate brings a diverse healthcare background to Orchid Health, with experience in cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and family medicine. Originally from California and Texas, she now calls the Willamette Valley home and is excited to support the Hoodland community.
Outside of work, Cate enjoys photography, cooking, video games, and outdoor activities like kayaking and snowboarding.
Cayla Solso, MA/PSS
Medical Assistant / Patient Support Specialist
Cayla has deep roots in the local community, growing up in Sandy and Welches and graduating from Sandy High School. She brings expertise in family practice, internal medicine, lab work, and chiropractic care and focuses on whole-body health.
In her free time, Cayla enjoys hobby farming, beekeeping, gardening, and foraging with her family. She is passionate about both health and wellness in her personal and professional life.
Dr. Douglas Lyon
Family Physician & Epidemiologist
Dr. Lyon is a seasoned family physician and epidemiologist with over 25 years of experience serving underserved communities. His work spans complex emergencies and public health crises, including cholera, Ebola, and COVID-19, with organizations like Doctors Without Borders, CDC, and WHO.
A long-time resident with a cabin on the slopes of Mt. Hood, Dr. Lyon is excited to join the Hoodland Clinic team. He is passionate about providing relationship-based, holistic care that supports not only individual health but the well-being of families and the broader community.
